Hospice care for a child with acute leukemia in the end-of-life stage:a case study

This article reported hospice care for a child with acute leukemia in the end-of-life stage,including the practical experience of using the concepts knowledge and skills of hospice care and nursing care for the child and his family members. The main points of nursing care include:conducting nursing care for symptoms of breathing difficulties and fever;carrying out family-participated painting therapy interventions,and children’s death education;holding a family meeting;using music,aromatherapy,and auricular acupoint therapy to relieve the insomnia symptoms of the children’s family members;using psychosocial therapy,family mourning,family dignity intervention,and writing letters that travel through time and space to relieve the complex grief of the children’s family members. The score of the Anticipatory Grief Scale dropped from 116 points to 76 points 6 months after the death,which achieved satisfactory results.
